MAPPA announced on April 19, 2024 JST, that production of YURI!!! on ICE the Movie: ICE ADOLESCENCE has been cancelled “due to various circumstances”.
The beleaguered movie was initially announced at the end of YURI!!! on STAGE live event in April 2017 following the wildly successful 2016 TV anime series. The movie subtitle ICE ADOLESCENCE was revealed along with the official website and teaser visual in July 2018, with an expected theatrical release in 2019.
In September 2019, the official website announced that the release has been delayed “in order to substantially scale up the content more than originally planned”. The most recent official update prior to the cancellation came in November 2020, when MAPPA confirmed on then-Twitter that production was still in progress with no known release date.
