According to an article by Japanese outlet Bunshun Kadokawa has issued a statement admitting “that it has received an initial statement of intention to acquire our shares.”

Sony currently owns 2% of Kadokawa shares and contributed to the development of FromSoftware’s hit game “Elden Ring”.

Kadokawa employees seem thrilled at Sony’s impending acquisition, stating dissatisfaction with current president and CEO Takeshi Natsuno, stemming from his inadequate response to a cyberware attack earlier this year.

Meanwhile, former Chairman Tsuguhiko Kadokawa – part of the company’s founding family – was reportedly “surprised, but appeared positive” about a Sony acquisition, according to a Bunshun source at the company.

Kadokawa himself resigned from the company in October 2022 following allegations of bribing an official of the Tokyo Olympic Games. Kadokawa denied the charges.

The Sony Group also said, “It is true that we made an initial statement of intention. I hope you can refrain from further comments.”
