Miku Expo 2024 kicked off in Vancouver last night at the almost full but not quite sold out Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Arena at the University of British Columbia.
If you could get past the fact that you were watching 3D models on an LED screen with a backing band that played overly loud, the concert was still fun. For someone who’s been out of the Miku fandom for a while, it was a bit nostalgic as well.
Now, as for what to expect. If you want merch, you’ll have to go early, as apparently merch started selling at 2pm for an 8pm show. VIP’s got exclusive merch, which included a tote bag, a commemorative VIP pass, a fan, a couple postcards, a phone stand, a lanyard and a sticker.
Somewhere in the fine print of your ticket it says not to bring light sticks (presumably so they can sell more), but most people brought their own anyway, so bring those light sticks.
You can also expect appearances from Miku’s friends, Kaito, Meiko, Kagamine Len, Kagamine Rin, and Megurine Luka, although undoubtedly, Miku is the star of the show. Also expect lots of costume changes for Miku, which is perhaps the reason for the screen and not the projection model people were expecting, but who knows.
As for people’s reaction to the event afterwards, lets point you to the replies under Miku Expo’s official twitter post:
The Miku Expo North America Tour continues through April and May, with the European leg coming in the fall.
