The Civilization VII showcase (Ok, Sid Meier’s Civilization VII), took place earlier this afternoon, teasing Gwendoline Christie as the new Civilization narrator. Then the man himself, Sid Meier, announced that the game would release on February 11, 2025 on both PC and Console, and that Firaxis would be working on the game for “several years to come.”
Various upper management staff from Firaxis spoke about the game, finally highlighting something new for Civilization: a fusion of civilizations between eras, something first breached in the civ-esque game Humankind. Basically, in every new era you get to choose a “new” civilization to build on top of your original one. The three eras you’ll be playing though are the Antiquity Age, Exploration Age, Modern Age. Also new for civ, you can choose a leader independent of their civilization. You also get a chance to level up your leader, in a manner of speaking.
Civ 7 (we can shorten it now), will be bringing back composer Christopher Tin, who composed the Grammy Award winning “Baba Yetu”, from Civ 4.
Initial reaction to the new Civ Eras seemed to be mixed (at least on youtube chat), with many rightly pointing out the similarities to Humankind. At the same time, Civ fans are, well, Civ fans, so no doubt many of them will give Civ 7 a go. Pre-orders are available now in the usual formats, (standard, deluxe, etc..).
So, that begs the question. Will you build an Empire to stand the test of time?
